DNA (changed)

Added to chapter one of Journal of a Time Traveler – a science fiction  and fantasy book about time travel. The Living Universe books series.

“Afraid? Do you want to run away and stop travelling? Or not? Not just yet? Would you still blame the bait? Or finally you will decide alone?” For the first time there was something wicked in her voice. “Why you don’t simply try to feel this new world? To open your mind and melt into the local field? You haven’t had a real taste of it yet. Who knows? Maybe it’ll be worth it,” she continued, softly this time, like trying hypnosis. “You’re unlikely to learn anything about it now, that time will come later, but maybe about yourself … It is the mind of the seeker that must first be educated, and the body follows. But you must have the will.” The hazy sun had already dropped below the horizon and the
land had melted into an inky wilderness by the time she had finished her scolding. The wind suddenly left off and there was complete silence. I was paralyzed with fear; I moved back instinctively, about to run. It only lasted a mere second before we were back on Earth, in my garden’s domestic assurance. She said nothing about it, and I did not pay attention to “that time will come later”.

Journal of a time traveler Chapter 2

Past is the future

”Then you already know the end of the mission!”

”The part of me dealing with this issue has no knowledge of that planet’s present. The last piece of information I have will be several month in the future of your transfer date there. That planet past is my present as it will be yours. Once you arrive, my knowledge of the immediate future will gradually become obsolete as you will change the reality on the ground.” (more…)

Ch1. Rite of passage

A broken sun is shining in pieces, floating in the cold water – a net of turquoise and glittering gold sparkles. In fact it is not cold, it is refreshing. All my muscles, in the effort of pushing me against the waves, are cooled by its gentle touch. The shore is fading like a Fata Morgana after almost half hour of hard swimming – the still visible bunch of palms is no larger than a discreet bouquet on  a yellow plate of sand. I was assured of no sharks swarming on this planet, and I am keeping my promise of training heavily.

Even with all this effort I still have a feeling of cheating. It is more like a holiday, in fact many short holidays spread on different planets and landscapes people cannot even dream at, none of them longer than one day. Probably I am still not prepared enough for longer endeavours, I forgot to ask if there is anything else dangerous, apart sharks, in these exotic waters – another bad mark in Houston’s notes for sure: “When you are in this kind of travel you have to pay attention to the environment.”  The whip burns on my shoulders are still lingering within my mind so I whisper softly as looking for soothe: longer they are more dangerous they are. I am sure that time will come one day, she is very good in calibrating my training. I sense each day a raise in the dosage oh effort I have to sustain. Still I cannot escape this cheating sentiment. Ch. 1: Egypt time travel I

Time travel to Egypt part 1

I don’t feel any moment the need for a speech comparing my steps with steps for mankind. Maybe for the simple reason that I have had no contribution in the making, there is no audience to impress, or I am just too scared. In movies you see a strange field of force like a suspended fluid; you touch the field, smile for the camera, keep your breath and jump. Here was nothing: Closed the eyes at home opened them in Egypt under a bright sun. The ancient Egypt. (more…)

First contact (end of chapter 2)

“Do you have contracts?”

“I used a term you will understand. If you can convince me that the mission should be stopped or that is already accomplished it is not considered unilateral leave.”

“So we are in direct contact all the time?”

“In a way, but it is too early to discuss this.”

“It is never too early to understand the danger I will face in time travels.”

“This is not about danger, but about technology and ways of working.” (more…)

First contact

I started to sit more often in the garden instead of hiking in weekends. The weather was more like late autumn than late summer so I had a good excuse, but to be honest it was more about trying to re-enact dreaming, and trying to have them in a safe place like the chair in my garden, not in a car or walking on the street. The famous glass of wine was also there but to no avail. I tried with both hands, half empty, full, empty, with the left eye, the right one, both open, both closed, almost one month of hard trying with absolute no success. But even with this small stress, the process was still enjoyable. Maybe I should change my job; wine taster is much more pleasant, even romantic compared to the dull process of doing business and code review

“Do you like it?” I turned around to see the owner of the strange voice. In fact the voice by itself was more pleasant than strange. A pleasant feminine voice, only the feeling that I had never heard it before was strange, and the sudden apparition in my garden.  I saw no one, decided there was no voice and I slipped back in reverie status waiting for my personal Godot dream to come back.
